Dahon, presenting six new models, the world?s leader in folding bikes returns its focus to technology and innovation for 2013.
Friedrichshafen, Germany August 30, 2012 ? Dahon, the world leader in folding bicycles, reveals six new models in addition to the award-winning EEZZ and two state-of-the-art Limited Edition anniversary bicycles, a revitalized line of accessories, as well as new distribution to several key markets during its press conference at Eurobike 2012.
Adding distribution partners in Greece, Italy, Australia, India and Peru, the company asserts a strong presence in all key markets. To accommodate the increased demand, Dahon has improved production and distribution processes by employing a new Vice President of Production at its main factory as well as a full staff at its new European headquarters in Bulgaria.
With a fresh team of qualified staff members and full-scale production lines at the Maxcom factory, production was able to begin smoothly and has been in full swing for the last six months. The factory is successfully fulfilling incoming orders and has received compliments on product quality.
?2012 has been a strong year for us in terms of technology and innovation. Our 2013 range is wider and stronger than it has been in years.? says Dr. David Hon, CEO. ?We are very pleased with the progress at Dahon Europe and have seen significant improvements in production and distribution as a result of its success.?
New for 2013
Dahon introduces the Visc P18, a new performance bike built with a lower top tube to make getting on and off the bike easier. Featuring a new Neos 9-speed derailleur, Alloy V-brakes and double-walled rims, the Visc is a smooth ride and bright addition to the anniversary line.
A second new model, the Vybe City D2 is a solid urban bike that delivers high quality performance at an attractive price. The Vybe City keeps things simple with a SRAM Automatix coaster hub but is built strong with high-tensile steel. Keeping in mind the importance of safety, Dahon engineers have also incorporated a Dynamo hub to power front and rear lights for increased visibility.
The Formula S20, another addition to Dahon?s range of performance folding bikes, combines a Shimano Tiagra 10-speed drive train with an Alloy 53/39 tooth crankset for 20 speeds of versatility. The Formula is a fast and powerful, yet sleek addition to the Dahon range.
Broadening its innovative capabilities, Dahon also introduces the Ikon Electric, a completely new folding e-bike energized by TranzX PST. The powerful 36 Volt, 250 watt brushless motor from JD is concealed in the front wheel and the 36 Volt battery is tucked away in the rear carrier. Other new models include the Ikon D3, a 3-speed city bike and the Vector P20, a sporty road bike designed to be swift on the road and agile around obstacles.
The EEZZ, a special highlight of the presentation and winner of the 2012 Eurobike Award, features a new Dahon technology that allows the bike to fold vertically rather than horizontally. As a result, the EEZZ is able to fold smaller, faster and more efficiently. Weighing only 9 kg, the new model folds in less than seven seconds and can be pulled from the trunk of a car or an apartment closet and easily assembled into a reliable means of bi-model transportation.
At the helm of the 2013 product line and concluding the product presentation were the 30 years anniversary bikes. Specifically designed for the company?s 30th birthday, the Limited Edition anniversary bike is comprised of top-tier materials and components; many of which have been custom made for the elite model. A second model features many of the same materials as the Anniversary bike but has been adjusted to accommodate a lower retail price. The complete range of 33 bikes also includes nine upgraded models alongside other familiar models such as the Jifo, Mu N360 and Vitesse D7HG.
New Accessory Line and Focus on Green Mobility
Dahon also introduces a preview of its new Dr. Hon branded accessory line specifically designed for folding bicycles. Dr. Hon accessories optimize functionality for smaller frame designs and have been engineered with exceptional design and innovative technologies. The new collection rolls out in 2013.
In support of Dr. Hon?s vision of a cleaner and more eco-friendly world, Dahon concluded with the announcement of the Green Award. This award is a prize of 10,000 Euros given to an individual, group, company, organization or even city who has demonstrated significant efforts towards green mobility. Applicants will be judged by a panel of experts and Dahon is working with different organizations and institutions to identify potential candidates. Winners will be announced during Eurobike 2013.
Urban transport specialist, Tern, today introduced four new bikes to their lineup, including an all new low-step frame platform. The new bikes are the Eclipse X20, the Castro D8, the Swoop Duo, and Swoop D7i. The Eclipse X20 and Swoop Duo both recently won coveted Eurobike awards in the Urban Bike category.
?Last year, we introduced a tight line of twenty-two models and we?ve been amazed at how quickly customers and dealers have taken to the brand and the bikes,? stated Joshua Hon, Tern vice president. "We also made a commitment to eliminate model years for our bikes, saving ourselves, our dealers, and our customers, the annual re-training, re-stocking of spare parts, discounting, and delays that accompany the typical model year change. So instead of revamping the entire model line, every year, we get to concentrate on a smaller number of models. We?re really pleased with how these four new models have turned out; they round out our tight product range nicely by meeting the needs of a broader range of riders.?

The security of the low step frame design can be appreciated by young and old: the young, when in tight jeans or short skirts, and the old, if they have an old injury or haven?t ridden in some years.
The Swoop comes in two configurations: the Swoop Duo and Swoop D7i. The Swoop Duo is a cleanly-designed bike with minimal cabling and automatic 2-speed shifting. It is the winner of a 2012 Eurobike Award in the Urban Bike category.
